Yes everything that leans against, sits on or touches the heart slab will be moved slightly as per heat expansion. As you said, you could reduce depth of the oven to gain a bit more space for the insulation at the back between the oven and outer skin. How about choosing a thinner wall material for the wall at the back giving the extra space, it might not be visible from the front at all, or if it was visible the part can be incorporated into overall decorative design. If you decided to shift the refractory part to the front make sure you will still have good room for proper vent depth. r
