For reasons of efficiency and time and to an extent hassel free, when I pour my hearth slab,i'd like to pour it over" formworker masonite" for strength and box it to 100mm. I'd use a normal concrete mix. Then after it has cured, place over it a ceramic blanket(optional) and ontop of this "vermiculite boarding" or "ceramic Boarding" and then start placing the firebricks directly ontop of the board. This way the heat should not permeate into the slab, making the need for a vermiculite bedding under the slab & mixing of fireclay/perlite etc into the cement slab unecessary. Will this work?
