Wish to convert fireplace to an oven

I have a fireplace in a den just off of my kitchen that I would like to convert into a wood-fired pizza oven. The fireplace box is about a foot off the floor, but I was actually thinking about knocking out some of the chimney to building a new box higher up. Any thoughts on how I could approach this project or how others have done it?
In the alternative, does anyone have thoughts on how I could convert the current fireplace itself using the current box. Note, it is a standard average sized fireplace built in 1958.
