Vault - firebricks preparation.

Hi Rado et al,
I noticed when I laid out firebricks to make the former for the vault - they would touch in places, say the ends, but leave narrow gaps in other places. Is it necessary to grind the bricks to fit? And if so, what method do you recommend?
They are only small gaps less than a millimeter or so. Regards,
