Thanks Jason,
concrete cladding goes right on top of firebricks, it absorbs the heat. Then you can apply ceramic fibre blanket as heat insulation, keeping the energy under the blanket. If anything goes over the blanket (another form of additional back up heat insulation or cover) it should start to be applyed in thin layer not squashing blanket thickness making it less efficient.
