Reclaimed bricks back-view

Doing the rounded roof was a challenge. The first row on each side is cut on an angle to receive the second row. It would be nice to do the first row and let it set till it dries. I was to impatient so I built a cross brace to hold the first row and build from there. The top of the oven cladding had 4″ of vermiculite mix, I knew it would be virtually impossible to lay brick on top of vermiculite so I laid 5/8″ flat clay tile edge to edge on the vermiculite, that allowed me to lay the brick on a much firmer base. It takes twice the mortar to lay bricks this way.
